Young patients at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital have been given a morale boost with a secret visit from pop diva Taylor Swift.
The world’s highest paid celebrity talked to and took photos with patients at the South Brisbane hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
“Thank you Taylor Swift for dropping by the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital to give our patients and families a special surprise they’ll never forget,” the hospital wrote on Facebook.
“They’ll never ‘shake off’ the memories you made.”
Gold Coast toddler Slater Walker, who has been in hospital for the past three months following surgery for a brain tumour, spent 10 minutes with the star.
“It was really random. Just all of a sudden one of the nurses came around and said Taylor was there and she’d be popping by to see us,” Slater’s mother Bianca said.
“My little boy just loves her – he dances to her all the time.”
Ms Walker said the encounter was unforgettable.
“She thought my little boy was just amazing … very bright and beautiful and he had a lovely smile,” she said.
“She laughed with him and high–fived him. It was really lovely.
“I told her a bit about his condition … she was so friendly and open and down to earth.”
Ms Walker said her son had spent the past three months recovering from surgery.
“We’re hoping he can be released soon to go home for a couple of weeks.”
‘I can’t say thank you enough’
Other patients have taken to social media to share happy snaps from their experience with the star.
Sunshine Coast girl Bella Harry posted a video of her meeting with Swift to her Instagram.
In the video, Bella is pictured with a Shake It Off pillowcase which appears to have been signed by the 26-year-old singer-songwriter.
“As Bella was getting some more precious blood at hospital she had a visitor from her favourite superstar,” the Benefit4Bella Facebook page wrote.
“She got to spend 20 minutes with Taylor Swift all to herself and take a thousand selfies and a couple of videos.
“Huge thanks to our special friends and medical team for making this happen.”
On Facebook, Naomi Tolley said the experience was the “ultimate dream” come true for her daughter.
“I can’t say thank you enough for giving my kids the amazing experience tonight of meeting the beautiful Taylor Swift,” she wrote on the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Facebook page.
Swift is reportedly staying on the Gold Coast with boyfriend Tom Hiddleston, who is filming Thor: Ragnarok.
Last year, Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp took time off filming the latest instalment of the Disney franchise on the Gold Coast to visit sick children at Lady Cilento in character as Jack Sparrow.
