Queensland‘s health minister has pledged to use the federal election to fight the Turnbull government’s healthcare funding cuts.

Cameron Dick is promising to ensure voters in the state are aware of the federal government’s decision to cut dental care funding and freeze the medicare rebate.

“I will be campaigning up and down the coast, all across Queensland over the next eight weeks to make it clear to Queenslanders the impact the cuts the Turnbull government has now locked into healthcare and the impact that will have on them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Queensland Infrastructure Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said he was working to secure support from both sides for the proposed $5.2 billion Brisbane Cross River Rail project.

“Clearly the thing we’ve been in conversation about before this election is the importance of Cross River Rail. It is the number one infrastructure project for Queensland,” he said.

Environment Minister Steven Miles called on the government to do more to cut emissions and protect the Great Barrier Reef.

“(Malcolm Turnbull) is a self-proclaimed politician who is concerned about climate change and he leads a government that’s not doing anything to reduce emissions,” he said.

“We know that the reef is suffering and it’s suffering because of our inaction on global warming.”
