UPDATE: Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has officially announced Roma will be getting a new hospital.
The official cost is expected to be $70 million, with the Ms Palaszczuk saying she expected it it to bring in 250 jobs to the region.
“This is an exciting day for Roma. My government will be building a brand new Roma Hospital that will better meet the public’s health needs,” she said.
“This project is a clear signal that we are committed to building and improving our health services in Queensland no matter where they are located.
“Initial planning for the new hospital indicates an increase in capacity from 3000 to 3500 patients per year at a cost of around $70 million.”
While touring the Hospital, Ms Palaszczuk noted how unacceptable the conditions of the building were, particularly in one of the staff rooms.
EARLIER: Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is expected to announce the building of a new Roma Hospital this morning.
The new building, which had been heavily lobbied for on a state and local government level, is rumoured to have a budget between $40 million and $70 million.
Ms Palaszczuk will be making the announcement on the steps of Roma Hospital this morning.
