Health Minister Cameron Dick said he has been left “devastated” and “heartbroken” after witnessing Queensland’s first holiday road fatality.

Mr Dick was understood to be travelling to Rockhampton when he came upon the Gin Gin crash, in which one person passed away, and another two were injured.

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle traffic crash on the Bruce Highway in Monduran, about 20 kilometres north of Gin Gin, at 12.45pm.

Mr Dick praised the emergency responders.

“I was on the scene of a fatal accident outside Gin Gin this afternoon while on leave travelling to Central Queensland,” he said in a statement.

“As one of the first people on the scene, I lodged a call with triple zero.

“The response of the paramedics and police who attended this tragedy was nothing short of outstanding.

“This was a truly devastating and heartbreaking incident to encounter.

“My thoughts are with all of those involved in this tragedy and their families, as well as with the dedicated men and women on the front line who responded to it.

“After witnessing this tragedy, I urge Queenslanders to stay safe on our roads this festive season.”
