A NEW chairwoman has been appointed to run the board which oversees Brisbane’s embattled Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
Health Minister Cameron Dick will today announce academic and former top bureaucrat Rachel Hunter has been appointed as Children’s Health Queensland board chair, more than two months after the role was vacated by Susan Johnston.
Ms Johnston resigned ahead of the release of a damning report into the commissioning of the hospital.
Ms Hunter, who formerly served as the director-general of both the Department of Justice and Attorney-General and the Department of Education and Training and as Queensland Public Service Commissioner, also recently undertook the Hunter Review into the restructure of Queensland Health.
Mr Dick said Ms Hunter had been appointed to the head the hospital board for a period of 18 months.
“I have confidence that her focus will be on making sure the hospital is delivering for the people of Queensland,” Mr Dick said.

“Ms Hunter was an exceptional candidate for the Children’s Health board chair position and I have no doubt she will provide strategic leadership and guidance to the board.”
Mr Dick this week announced a $70 million rescue package for the LCCH to address patient and staff concerns.
About 31 new beds will be opened with about 100 staff being recruited to provide the extra capacity.
