The Florida Hospital Nicholson Center has unveiled a new robotic surgical training curriculum called Fundamentals of Robotic Surgery (FRS) that includes an online course and a special device to practice clinical skills. The FRS dome device comes in four variants and is used as a model to perform seven exercises. The device lets surgeons practice working with skin and fat layers, either alone or together depending on the demands of the training.
Overall, the goal of the training is to improve not just hand manipulation abilities, but cognitive, psychomotor, communication, and team training skills. Plus it’s based on 25 real outcome measures from 14 surgical specialties that cover a wide range of minimally invasive robotic surgical applications.
