Hot water and central heating have been restored at Perth’s Fiona Stanley Hospital after they were disrupted during repair work to water infrastructure at the site on Saturday night.

Extra rugs and heaters were handed out to patients during the work, which was completed late on Sunday morning.

There have been two major water leaks at the new hospital in the space of three months, and Health Minister Kim Hames has conceded they may not be the last.

Surgery was cancelled during the weekend work and ambulances were diverted, except in serious emergency cases.

In a statement, the hospital said all operating theatres were now functioning as normal and the hospital was taken off ambulance and maternity diversions late on Sunday morning.

Dr Hames was not available for interview today, but has stated the government was not to blame for the problems, which were subject to ongoing investigation.

Dr Hames said he hoped the Health Department would get some answers at a meeting with builder Brookfield Multiplex on Tuesday.

The Australian Medical Association described the situation as unacceptable.

The Australian Nursing Federation agreed the government needed to sort out the problems, but said morale remained high among many staff, who were excited to be working at the new hospital.
