Why sleeping naked is good for you

Sleep freely: Nudist nights.

Sleep freely: Nudist nights.

Sleep naked for the sake of your health.

According to one new survey, men are more likely to go to bed in the buff, but for the shameless lady nudists among us, this comes as welcome news too.

Perhaps even the best news since it turned out nude canyoning was a thing.

Putting away the pj’s – as about one third of us do before we slip between the sheets (or underneath the doona since winter has well and truly hit) – can help prevent infections, improve your relationship and help you to have a better night’s sleep.

Our body’s ability to adjust its temperature improves our sleep and, according to experts, sleeping sans cumbersome clothing can help us do this.

“Sleeping naked can regulate your temperature, helping you get the best night sleep,” GP Dr Sarah Brewer told the Mail Online.

If we’re in bed with our lover, who can always double as a hot water bottle, our buff bodies can deepen our sense of connection.

“When you and your partner both sleep naked, the skin-to-skin contact will release the feel-good hormone,” Dr. Fran Walfish, psychotherapist and author of The Self-Aware Parent, told Medical Daily

“Sleeping naked gives us a sense of freedom and may help you feel more sexy and loving,” she said.

“Humans are highly tuned to the sight of bare skin and this acts as a signal for sexual arousal,” added Brewer.

And aroused as you may be, this can ultimately result in a more satisfying sleep.

“You may have more sex and we all know orgasms are Mother Nature’s best answer to insomnia … better than bottled milk and Ambien!” explains Walfish.

If you have a yeast infection, you won’t be feeling like a lot of sexy time. Interestingly, the ventilation of sleeping naked can reduce the chances of this, too.

“Sleeping naked would reduce the ability of those (always-present) bacteria to overwhelm the normal healthy vaginal flora,” Nicole Prause, an Associate Research Scientist at the University of California Los Angeles, told Medical Daily

Like you needed another Demtel “but wait there’s more more” moment to save your hard-earned money on pyjamas, it’s a freeing feeling sleeping naked and one of the rare times it’s socially acceptable to be clothes-free as an adult.
