PATIENTS at the Hervey Bay Hospital are being advised to drink bottled water and avoid showers while further tests for the potentially lethal legionella bacteria are carried out on the water supply.

THE bacteria was recently found in the water supply and in the lungs of a man who died at the hospital five weeks ago, the ABC reports.

The Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service says further tests are being carried out with results expected next week.
