The West Australian government has launched a plan to cut the number of people taking their own lives by 50 per cent over the next decade.

Mental Health Minister Helen Morton said $26 million had been allocated over four years in the 2015/16 state budget – almost double initial funding – to reduce self-harm risk in the community.

On average, one West Australian takes their own life every day, Treasurer Mike Nahan says.
