Frequent tanner shares graphic selfie of her skin cancer treatment
Despite the warnings and dangers, people still willingly plop into tanning beds.
In order to raise awareness of the dangers of tanning beds, one woman with skin cancer has taken to social media to share a selfie of her blistered skin after going through skin cancer treatment.

“You only get one skin and you should take care of it,” Tawny Willoughby wrote on Facebook. The 27-year-old revealed that she had done the majority of her tanning while in high school, but had her first skin cancer diagnosis when she was 21-years old. She stated that she went four to five times a week because it faded quickly.
Her post, which has been shared more than 50,000 times since it was originally posted on April 25, shows her face after using a cream called Aldara. Willoughby says that she is fortunate to not have melanoma, however she has had basal cell carcinoma five times, as well as squamous cell carcinoma once, which are different types of skin cancer.
Willoughby says that she has her skin checked every six to 12 months, at which point she usually has some type of skin cancer removed. She used her post on Facebook to encourage others to get their skin checked out, a warning that ended with a reality check.
“Don’t let tanning prevent you from seeing your children grow up. That’s my biggest fear,” Willoughby wrote on Facebook. She is the proud mother of a 2-year-old boy.
