QUEENSLAND’S Princess Alexandra Hospital has secured a $4.3 million “knife” to treat brain tumours without cutting into a patient’s skull.

HEALTH Minister Cameron Dick said the four-tonne machine, known as a Gamma Knife, is the first of its kind in the Australian public hospital system.

It uses focused beams of radiation to treat tumours and provides a non-invasive alternative to neurosurgery.
