SOUTH Australian country doctors will be paid more to attend emergencies and after-hours calls under a new pay deal with the state government.

SA Health says the three per cent rise and a commitment to fund training positions in obstetrics, anaesthesia and emergency medicine are included in the new deal already accepted by more than 50 per cent of country GPs.

The deadline for others accepting the agreement is May 29 and Country Health SA’s chief executive Maree Geraghty says she’s confident most will sign on.
