Anti-vaccination parents to lose childcare rebates under new ‘no jab, no pay’ laws

New laws being introduced by the Federal Government could see parents who do not vaccinate their children being denied childcare payments.

The laws, which have bipartisan support, could see parents denied up to $15,000 a year per child in payments.

Under current laws, families with children who are not immunised can still receive the rebates if they have a personal, philosophical or religious objection.

That will remain, but the tightening of the laws will require parents to be affiliated with a religious group or organisation that has formally registered its objection to the vaccinations.

The number of Australian children who have not been vaccinated has more than doubled in the past decade.

The laws if passed will come into effect in January.
