Emergency Department waiting times at Canberra’s two public hospitals continue to trail the national target with more people seeking treatment for minor ailments.

The latest report from ACT Health found between July to September last year only 52 per cent of patients were seen on time.

That is down from 55 per cent the previous year, but well below the national target of 70 per cent.

Previous figures have revealed the ACT has some of the country’s longest waiting times for emergency treatment.

More than 32,000 people sought treatment during the three month period – a 5 per cent increase on presentations compared to the same time last year.

The report said more people were going to the two hospital emergency departments who could have received treatment from a doctor – with a 43 per cent spike in presentations in the non-urgent category.
