QUEENSLAND Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has refused to say whether the state’s health director-general was sacked or he resigned.
IAN Maynard was recently called to a meeting with the acting head of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Kevin Yearbury, who told him he was required to implement Labor’s election commitments.
Ms Palaszczuk says Mr Maynard could not do so and he is no longer in the position. But she can’t confirm if he resigned or he was sacked. “He is no longer the director-general and I have thanked him for his service,” Ms Palaszczuk told ABC Radio. “Under the terms of the contract if you cannot continue, it’s, it’s spec… I can’t reveal the confidentiality of that letter.” She says directors-general were told if they would need to reapply for their jobs under Labor’s new merit-based system of appointments. On Thursday Ms Palaszczuk warned any other directors-general who didn’t think they could implement Labor’s plans to reconsider their positions. “I went to the election with a very clear plan and very clear policy objectives, and I expect them to be implemented,” she said. “Queenslanders do not want the broken promises that they saw in the last term in office.
