Another Queensland department director-general has left the now Labor-led State Government public service.

Health Department chief Ian Maynard has reached an agreement with the new Government and is leaving.

It follows Jon Grayson’s departure from the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The fate of the interim head of the Crime and Corruption Committee chairman, Dr Ken Levy, was sealed when Labor won the election, with Dr Levy since being sent on his way by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Meanwhile, speculation grows that Peter Wellington will be the first independent MP to take on the role of Speaker in Parliament.

If not, the Government may appoint Mr Wellington as head of Parliament’s Ethics Committee, or the Crime and Misconduct Committee.

Ms Palaszczuk is expected to notify Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey this week that the House will be recalled late next month.

Choosing a Speaker will require some care, because numbers in the hung Parliament are so close.
