The chair of WA’s health promotion agency, Healthway, will stand down amid allegations of inappropriate use of sponsorship perks.

A scathing report from the Public Sector Commission’s (PSC) found the volume and nature of perks obtained through deals with a range of sporting organisations was “excessive” and oversight of their use was “inadequate” at Healthway.

The findings followed the recent departure of executive director David Malone a year and a half after taking over the role.

It found Mr Malone, Healthway chairwoman Rosanna Capolingua, deputy chairwoman Cathcart Weatherly and some staff had all derived a private benefit from the deals.

Ms Capolingua announced her resignation today but defended her record, saying there had been misrepresentations in the media about her use of tickets.

Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett has called on other board members on the beleaguered agency to also stand down, saying a fresh start was needed.

More to come.
