The first case of Hepatitis A from imported berries has been detected in Western Australia.

The Health Department confirmed the contamination on Wednesday morning and said it expected more cases linked to recalled berries.

Hepatitis A symptoms can take up to seven weeks to develop and include weakness, fever and stomach pain.

The department urged people who had eaten recalled berries to not visit a doctor unless they were feeling unwell.

Blueberry Growers’ Association national president Greg McCulloch said it was time for imported products to face the same regulations as domestic products.
