NSW Health officials are following up fresh reports of hepatitis A cases linked to the Nanna’s mixed frozen berries recall.
THE 1kg bags of Nanna’s frozen mixed berries were recalled on Saturday after two people in NSW and three in Victoria were diagnosed with hepatitis A.
A further three people were diagnosed in Queensland on Monday, bringing to eight the total infected by the liver disease. Health authorities say the NSW sufferers are recovering in hospital. “NSW Health is actively following up other reported cases of hepatitis A,” NSW Health spokeswoman Dr Vicky Sheppeard said. “At this stage, there are no other confirmed cases.” Manufacturer Patties Foods also recalled 300g and 500g packs of Creative Gourmet Mixed Berries. Dr Sheppeard said the warning not to buy the mixed berries still stood. “The NSW Food Authority has advised consumers to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund, or discard it,” Dr Sheppeard said. Symptoms of hepatitis A start two to seven weeks after exposure to an infectious person or after eating contaminated food. Early symptoms are fever, nausea and loss of appetite.
