The LNP has promised 2650 frontline health jobs over the next three years.
The LNP has played its health trump card, promising more than four times as many new nurses as Labor did.
Premier Campbell Newman, accompanied by Health Minister Lawrence Springborg, announced 2650 extra frontline health jobs under a re-elected LNP government, including nearly 500 extra doctors and equivalent allied health jobs.
The Queensland Health jobs would be rolled out over the next three years.
However, the premier denied the announcement was a bid to regain favour with the health sector after the damage caused to his government by the doctors’ contract dispute.
“Everyone came together at the end of the day to resolve that satisfactorily,” he said.
Making the announcement in the emergency department of Wolloongabba’s Princess Alexandra Hospital on Thursday, Mr Newman said the new jobs, budgeted from the 2015/16 financial year, would cost $583.4 million over four years.
“Health is the most important frontline service issue for Queenslanders,” he said.
Mr Springborg said the extra staffing commitment eclipsed that promised by Labor in its health announcement.
“Labor promised 400 nurses over four years, Metro South alone will employ more than that and its completely and absolutely costed,” he said.
