A man wearing a hazmat suit has sprayed staff and customers with an unknown substance during a robbery at a Sunshine Coast pharmacy.

Paramedics are assessing three people who are undergoing a decontamination procedure.

An ambulance spokesman said one person had been taken to hospital in a stable condition, although it was not clear what their symptoms were.

The spokesman said the people had been sprayed with an “unknown chemical”.

Police said the robber walked into the Ocean Drive Pharmacy in Twin Waters about 1pm and started making threats.

He then allegedly sprayed people in the store with the liquid and stole drugs.

A police spokesman said the man left a small unknown object, possibly a motion sensor, on the shop counter before he fled.

Specialist police are at the scene, along with paramedics and fire crews.

The man is described as aged in his 40s, Caucasian, and of slim build with grey brown hair. Police said he was wearing a white protective suit and a mask.
