Queensland hospitals have suffered a state-wide IT failure, with contingency plans implemented across the state.
A Queensland Health spokeswoman said a “computer infrastructure issue impacting on IT” was being experienced throughout the department.
“No patients are being turned away from hospitals and surgeries are occurring as normal,” she said.
“Routine downtime procedures have been implemented to ensure patient safety.
“All hospital and health services have experienced some level of interruption to services but all have developed contingency plans to ensure services to patients continue.”
The health spokeswoman said the issue was in the department’s central data service centre.
Back-up systems had also failed, she said.
“Technical experts are working to rectify the problem,” she said.
Internet and email services continued to operate, she said, but specialist data programs had crashed.
Queensland Health was expected to provide an update about 5pm.
