ALMOST 200 cruise ship passengers on a tour of New Zealand have come down with a stomach bug.
THERE’S a norovirus outbreak aboard the Dawn Princess, which is carrying 1500 passengers as part of a 13-day trip around New Zealand, the Canterbury District Health Board has confirmed.
Carnival Australia has told local authorities the ship’s medical staff have diagnosed 198 cases of the infectious bug. People recovering from the gastro have been confined to their rooms and didn’t leave the ship when it docked at Akaroa and Dunedin at the weekend. The ship is scheduled to visit Fiordland on Monday. Norovirus symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea can last between one to three days, but once they have settled patients should be isolated for 24 hours.
