Canberra’s Calvary hospital reaches more than $800,000 settlement with a terminally ill woman after it failed to diagnose a lethal tumour before it was too late.

Rachael Ann Netting first went to the hospital at Bruce in January 2013 with acute pain.

Doctors noticed a mass in her liver, but nothing was done and she was released after treatment for another health problem.

The severity of her situation came to light in April this year when she returned to the hospital in pain.

The court heard the orders were needed quickly because Ms Netting was in a perilous state of health.

The hospital told the ACT Supreme Court it had reached agreement to pay the mother of two young children more than $800,000 in compensation.

The court ruled the hospital had breached its duty of care.

The compensation covered past and future medical care, and loss of expectation of life.

The court also ordered Ms Netting’s legal costs be paid.
