Report: Google Glass to get Intel processors

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Google will be trading out processors in its Google Glass device.

Right now the wearable device is powered by a Texas Instruments chip. The next iteration of the device will contain a low-power processor from Intel.

The WSJ reports this is all part of Intel’s plan to enter the wearable devices market early on, after learning from its shortcomings in mobile.

The outlet also notes Google’s partners, including Intel, will be promoting Google Glass as a workplace device — one for doctors, factory workers, and the like.

So while the device has received plenty of criticism as a consumer product, it may find its place in the commercial market.

This might turn out to be pretty important, given the recent round of Google Glass breakups and obits.

Whether Glass actually makes it as a consumer product will depend on a whole lot more than a processor from Intel. Let’s just hope Google starts with that consumer-unfriendly $1,500 price tag.
