Police are appealing for information after baby boy was found by a cyclist who had heard cries at bottom of drain

A newborn baby boy has been found 2.5m down a drain in the north-west of Sydney.

A cyclist was riding along the the bike track beside the M7 in Quakers Hill about 7.30am on Sunday when he heard a baby crying from the drain.

He and a group of passersby managed to lift the top of the drain and saw the baby lying at the bottom.

Police were called and rescued the baby who has been taken to the Children’s hospital at Westmead.

He has no obvious signs of injury and police are appealing for anyone who knows the baby, or knows how he came to be in the drain, to come forward.
