THE Victorian Greens say they would invest $400 million in a plan to keep people healthy and out of hospital.

GREENS health spokeswoman Colleen Hartland says prevention is better than cure but only one per cent of the health budget is spent on promotion.

“Our comprehensive action plan will invest $400 million in new funding over four years and develop targets and action plans to better prevent, manage and recover from a range of diseases, including type two diabetes,” Ms Hartland said on Thursday. The coalition on Thursday said if re-elected it will provide an $85 million package to support the health and wellbeing of senior Victorians. Premier Denis Napthine said the package covers a full spectrum of services, including community participation and wellbeing, mental health services, targeted support for Victorians with dementia and their family and carers and increased access to elective surgery and other health care.
