Philips is finally releasing its Lifeline GoSafe personal alert system after previewing it at CES almost two years ago. Similar to other “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” devices, it lets the user press one button to quickly get in touch with emergency services, loved ones, or anyone else pre-arranged to help. Unlike most other systems, the neck-worn component works just about anywhere there is a cell-phone connection.
The necklace has a fall detector built-in, which will automatically call for help after a fall if the user doesn’t do it herself. Additionally, it will pass on location information, gathered using a combination of six different techniques, to emergency services to make sure they get to the right spot expediently. The necklace allows you to talk with the emergency response folks that pick up the phone to get the appropriate help needed.
The necklace runs for a week on a single charge and the stationary unit placed inside the house makes sure the communication link always remains strong.
