The Australian Medical Association (AMA) says it will use the feedback it has gathered from health professionals in South Australia’s Riverland to lobby for funding to improve local services.

The association’s state president, Patricia Montanaro, this week toured the region, to talk to local doctors, nurses and allied health workers.

Dr Montanaro said improving access to health services was a key discussion topic.

She said it would use the information in its discussions with the state and federal governments.

“It’s very important for us to know the wishes of the health people who work here so that when we do put our submissions in, when we talk to Country Health, when we talk to the Health Minister or the Premier, we know what we’re talking about and we can say one size does not fit all,” she said.

She said many of the discussions centred on staffing and resources.

“The issues around workforce – making sure you have the right workforce and making sure you attract the right workforce to meet needs into the future are very common threads,” she said.
