The head of Queensland’s largest hospital has abruptly left without explanation after less than two years in the job.

Professor Keshwar Baboolal was appointed executive director at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) last year and reappointed in August.

In a statement, Metro North Hospital and Health Service did not provide reasons for his departure.

Dr Tony Sara from the Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation said transparency was a thing of the past.

“The medical staff at the hospital advise that there was no prior warning for this, that he was apparently escorted off the premises at short notice,” Dr Sara said.

Opposition health spokeswoman Jo-Ann Miller said there had been a significant turnover of senior staff at the Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

She said Health Minister Lawrence Springborg needed to explain the issues.

“What’s going on in that hospital and health service? He needs to be open and transparent,” Ms Miller said.

“He needs to advise the staff of the hospital and he needs to advise the people of Queensland what on earth is happening.”

In September, the Health Service suspended chief executive Malcolm Stamp and executive director of corporate services and performance Scott McMullen.

Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission is currently investigating nepotism claims.
