AnthroTronix (Silver Spring, MD) received FDA clearance to bring to market its DANA software suite for assessing reaction times in patients suspected of suffered traumatic brain injury or other condition that may have an impact on neurocognitive function. The software runs as an app on Android and iOS devices, which are given to patients to perform a number of routines. A trained clinician reviews the results once the patient completes the tests, which can be used to decide on a further course of action.
Previously, the software within the apps, which was developed thanks to funding from the U.S. Navy and Army, has already been successfully tested on soldiers in Afghanistan, but in a different form factor. There are three ranges of tests available, depending on the situation: a quick 5 minute test, a 15 minute brief, and a full range 45 minute battery of tests. The company sees the technology being used not only in clinical applications, but also for scientific and preclinical research, as well as for performance assessment in athletes.
