Ebola Patient, Nina Pham, Cries While Talking to Doctor in New Video
Before being transported to the National Institutes of Health’s clinical center to be treated for Ebola, Nina Pham, the first American to contract the disease, shared an emotional moment with her physician.
Dr. Gary Weinstein filmed the teary exchange with the nurse, as seen above, which was shared on YouTube Thursday, by Texas Health Resources, the parent company of the hospital where Pham works and was being treated.
“Thanks for getting well,” Weinstein says, before sharing his gratitude with Pham for being part of the volunteer team who took care of the first patient with Ebola in the United States, Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan.
“We’re really proud of you,” Weinstein adds.
Pham doesn’t say much in the video, but she does wipe away tears as she lays in her hospital bed. She also invites the hospital staff to come to Maryland, which is where she flew Thursday to be treated at the NIH in Bethesda. A health care worker covered in protective gear hands Pham tissues during the exchange.
Since Pham was diagnosed, another Texas nurse, Amber Joy Vinson, contracted Ebola. Vinson flew between Dallas and Cleveland before she knew she was infected, sparking fears amongst those who may have come into contact with her or others she visited.
“There’s no crying,” Weinstein tells Pham, although he chokes back tears himself during the video. “Happy tears are Okay. Otherwise no tears.”
To that Pham replies: “I love you guys.”
