Ambulance Victoria says it will contact the family of a man who died at Wedderburn after waiting more than half-an-hour for medical help to arrive.

Ambulance Victoria has issued a statement to say it is reviewing the case.

An ambulance was called just before 9:30pm (AEST) on Wednesday night when the 52-year-old man went into cardiac arrest.

The first crew to arrive just after 10:00pm was the Wedderburn volunteer response team.

Ambulance Victoria says that despite the best efforts of crews and bystanders, the man could not be revived.

The paramedics’ union said yesterday it understood the delay was because of pager problems.

Ambulance Victoria has confirmed crews were instead dispatched by phone and it is investigating what went wrong.

Wedderburn residents have been pushing for several years for the town to get its own ambulance station.
