Nurses at a south-west Victorian aged care facility will walk off the job this week, if an allegedly abusive elderly female resident is not moved out.

The woman has been a resident at Lyndoch Living in Warrnambool for several months.

It is alleged she often abuses nurses and that one staff member spent weeks off work after with a shoulder injury, stress and anxiety following an alleged incident with the woman.

The nurses’ union’s Paul Gilbert says staff have agreed to strike on Thursday if the woman is not relocated.

“This week there’ll be communications between Lyndoch and a couple of other agencies, two other agencies, to try and secure an appropriate placement for this lady,” he said.

“We’ll be keeping pressure on Lyndoch to make sure that happens.”

Lyndoch Living’s Rhys Boyle says he expects an outcome soon.

“We’ve been working with a range of government departments, guardians and other authorities for around four months and this is really just a culmination of a range of discussions,” he said.

“It’s difficult when you’ve got five or six key stakeholders involved in a sensitive issue to get everyone agreeing but we now have that and I think that there’ll be an outcome announced that will be very satisfactory to everyone.”
