NURSES PAY PLEDGE A POLITICAL FIX

A minor pay-rise for Queensland Nurses has been labelled a “political fix on the eve of an election” by Shadow Health Minister Jo-Ann Miller.

Mrs Miller said Queensland nurses deserved better from the Newman Government than an inadequate pay-rise aimed at placating nurses in the lead up to the election.

“I don’t think that this has escaped anyone’s attention that the rise takes place just days after the three year mark of the arrogant Newman Government and when an election is due,” Mrs Miller said.

“And 2.2% is less than inflation which is forecast in Campbell Newman’s own budget papers to be 2.75% for this financial year.

“In real terms, that’s a pay cut for Queensland nurses.

“It’s nothing more than a political fix on the eve of an election and comes on top of more than 1750 nurse and midwife jobs that have been cut.

“This decision has also been made with no consultation with nurses in the arrogant fashion that is typical of this government.”
