The South Australian branch of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) will visit the Riverland in the coming months to talk to local doctors.
The group’s president, Dr Patricia Montanaro, and chief executive, Joe Hooper, completed a similar visit in the Murray Mallee region this week.
She says Mannum doctors were concerned about the impact of the proposed GP co-payment fee.
“Certainly the doctors in Mannum expressed their concern about those marginal and marginalised patients and the most vulnerable, absolutely,” she said.
Dr Montanaro says she hopes to visit some of the smaller GPs, along with the Riverland General Hospital.
“I’m sure that we’ll visit Barmera, Berri, Renmark, Loxton and some of the smaller areas as well as the hospital,” she said.
“The Berri hospital redevelopment is something I’ve seen a number of times and I’m certainly keen to see some of those facilities up and working.”
