A police operation is underway at four Sydney hospitals.

Patients, some in wheelchairs, were evacuated from the top five floors of Prince of Wales private hospital in Sydney’s east at about 3pm but have since been allowed back in, Channel Nine reported.

Police have confirmed the operation is underway but have declined to comment on the details.

The other hospitals involved are believed to be Royal Prince Alfred, Royal North Shore and Longueville Private.
