Queensland Health has been forced to take to social media to address issues with the BreastScreen Queensland telephone booking service.
Callers to the 13 20 50 appointment booking service have not been directed to their correct clinic for close to two weeks. The state government has blamed the Commonwealth, which recently changed service providers for the national contract from Telstra to AAPT.
Telstra is understood to have directed calls to the appropriate clinic based on the caller’s telephone prefix. AAPT uses postcodes. But given the size of Queensland’s postcode regions, many callers are being directed to the wrong clinic.
A spokesman for Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said the department was made aware of the issue a week ago and had been working with the Commonwealth to find a solution to the problem.

In the meantime, the government has used Facebook and Twitter to apologise for “any delays or frustration this may be causing”.
The department recommends those wishing to make an appointment call their local service directly.
