Glasgow: Sierra Leone’s Commonwealth Games team chief says many of his athletes do not want to return home because they fear the outbreak of the killer Ebola virus in their country.

Chef de mission Unisa Deen Kargbo told The Times newspaper he’d had several meetings with his athletes and they had told him they were scared of the risks of returning to Sierra Leone in the midst of a public health crisis.

Ebola has now claimed the lives of 729 people in four west African nations.

On Friday it emerged Sierra Leone cyclist Moses Sesay, 32, was admitted to a Glasgow hospital the previous week after feeling unwell.
