A controversial euthanasia doctor has plans to return to Victoria’s Wimmera after what organisers have described as a successful forum last week.
Dr Philip Nitschke told retirees at Horsham on Friday, he expects his medical deregistration to take effect today after his support of a Perth man’s suicide.
The Wimmera Association of Independent Retirees says two people expressed their opposition to the doctor’s work on the day but most attendees were in favour of his ideas.
The association’s Lyall Wheaton says if Dr Nitschke returns he would conduct his own independent sessions for those who are interested in more information.
“It’s fair to say that Dr Nitschke didn’t go into the mechanics of things on the day,” he said.
“He does that in a workshop which is then to a restricted audience.”
