Kyneton Health has told a community meeting it is close to signing a deal with an organisation to increase the number of general practitioners at the town’s hospital.

The issue was raised at a meeting of about 24 locals and the hospital’s new board president Peter Matthews and new chief executive Maree Cuddihy.

It is the first community consultation meeting that has been held since the new management took over the hospital and is part of its bid to make a fresh start.

The health service says it recognises that the availability of GP services at the hospital is one of the community’s biggest concerns.

It has told the meeting, the board is currently reviewing expressions of interest in an effort to increase GPs at the site.

It says it hopes to be able to share news about a new arrangement with an organisation soon.
