Polling booths have opened in the Brisbane electorate of Stafford where Labor is expected to trounce the Liberal National Party in a state by-election.

Labor’s candidate Anthony Lynham is widely tipped to prevail over the LNP’s Bob Andersen in Saturday’s poll, which comes eight months before the general election is due.

The inner-north seat was one of a swag won by the LNP during their 2012 electoral whitewash but looks set to return to Labor following the resignation of former MP Chris Davis in May.

Dr Davis, once the state head of the Australian Medical Association, disapproved of the government’s handling of doctors’ contracts and the watering down of political donation laws.
