A COMMON brand of antibiotic administered to children has been recalled in New Zealand because of fears the bottles could contain glass fragments.
THE recall applies to Amoxicillin Actavis Powder for Oral Suspension which comes in two strengths, 125 mg/5mL and 250 mg/5mL.
It is only for the liquid form of the drug, not the capsule form. Amoxicillin Actavis is often used to treat children for glue ear, chest, skin and urinary tract infections, but there are alternative drugs. The recall was triggered when two bottles have been found to contain glass fragments, which appear to have been broken off from the lip during manufacturing.
