A Labor Government will implement a community-based prevention program that will target 10,000 Queenslanders at high risk of developing diabetes, and help them make positive changes to their lifestyles.
The program, Health for Life! Taking action on diabetes, will be developed and implemented in partnership with health service providers, and will involve individual or small-group consultations with trained staff over an eight-month period.
This enhanced version of the successful Life! program running in Victoria over the past seven years will target the underlying risk factors for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and some cancers.
Through this preventative approach, Labor will reduce the strain on the public health system and deliver benefits of approxi-mately $70 million.
