AMA President, A/Prof Brian Owler, will address the National Press Club in Canberra on Wednesday, 23 July 2014.
A/Prof Owler will speak about ensuring the sustainability of the Australian health system.
“Australia has one of the most efficient and highly performing health systems in the world,” A/Prof Owler said today.
“And, contrary to the views of some, the Australian health budget is not out of control.
“The key is doing things more efficiently, and achieving greater cooperation between all levels of government on health funding and health priorities.”
A/Prof Owler will speak about the impacts of the 2014 Federal Budget on health, Indigenous health priorities, and the changing role of private health insurers in health service delivery, among other things.
