When life hands you lemons….

We all know how the saying ends. That’s exactly why 7-year-old Quinn Callender of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, made lemonade when he found out that his friend Brayden Grozdanich, who has cerebral palsy, needed an expensive surgery to help him walk.

Armed with a bucket full of lemons, Callender and Grozdanich set up a lemonade stand outside a local grocery store on Sunday to raise money for the surgery.

But with help from his parents, Callender also organized a crowdfunding campaign, which at the time of this writing has raised more than $49,000 CAD (more than $46,000 USD), surpassing the page’s initial $20,000 goal.

Grozdanich has difficulty walking. Although he has already been through painful physiotherapy, the boy is seeking a medical procedure in New Jersey that may allow him to walk without the aid of braces, CBC News reports.

Travis Grozdanich, the boy’s father, told CBC News that there is a similar surgery available in Canada, but it’s more invasive and could possibly leave him wheelchair-bound.

The crowdfunding campaign still has 26 days remaining, and is showing no sign of slowing down.
