Queensland’s Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) has been designated as a prestigious Magnet facility for the third time.
This makes PAH one of only 400 organisations around the world to have received Magnet designation – with PAH the only facility outside of America to achieve it for a third time.
Magnet is an international credentialing program that recognises quality patient care, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice. It is the highest recognition for nursing excellence that can be attained internationally.
PAH was the first hospital in the southern hemisphere to be named a Magnet hospital in 2004; and was the only hospital outside of America to be designated again in 2009 and now in 2014.
After an enormous accreditation submission and rigorous judgement by the external organisation, nursing staff and executives in a packed auditorium were given the good news by international phone call late last week.
Executive Director of Nursing Services at PAH, Veronica Casey, is jubilant over the announcement.
“We are just so happy to be designated as a Magnet hospital for the third time. This is a real tribute to all of our staff and their dedication, commitment and determination to patient safety,” she said.
