Health professionals will meet this week to discuss ways to solve a doctor shortage in East Gippsland.
East Gippsland residents are waiting up to two months to see a doctor for non-emergency medical appointments.
Gippsland Medicare Local has formed a task group of local doctors and health professionals to address the issue.
The chief executive of Gippsland Medicare Local, Peter Quigley, says a solution must be found.
“If you are a new patient to some clinics, you might not actually be able to see that particular practice, because they have closed their books to new patients or it could take four to six to eight weeks to see a GP,” he said.
“It is variable across the area.”
