Despite federal government cuts in health and education from 2017-18, state government spending in both portfolios increased above inflation in the state budget.

Health spending increased by six per cent to $13.6 billion, while education spending jumped seven per cent to $11.8 billion for the 2014-15 years.

The budget makes clear that the federal health budget cuts would hurt Queensland Health.

It said the federal government’s decision to change the way the funding was calculated “has major implications for the state in managing the long-term growth in hospital demand services”.
